Don't know how to join ZOOM meetings or watch recordings? Contact Us or find out how by watching this video.
Our Rapid Revision Sessions are designed to help students quickly recall key points, themes, and techniques from the texts prescribed for their Ordinary Level Literature syllabus. In September, we focused on the following works:
Overview – A humorous yet thought-provoking story about a clever boy, Nicholas, who outsmarts his strict aunt.
Key Themes – Authority vs. rebellion, the innocence of childhood, hypocrisy of adults, and the power of imagination.
Techniques – Satire, irony, and vivid description to critique rigid discipline.
Revision Focus – Students practiced identifying ironic situations and discussing how Saki uses humor to deliver social criticism.
Overview – A powerful poem reflecting on the ethnic riots of July 1983 in Sri Lanka, contrasted with the excitement of a cricket match.
Key Themes – Violence and chaos, indifference of society, national identity, and the clash between ordinary life and political unrest.
Techniques – Juxtaposition, imagery, irony, and symbolism.
Revision Focus – Students revised how Gooneratne blends sports commentary with tragic historical reality, and practiced writing critical responses on tone and perspective.
By the end of this rapid revision:
Students refreshed their memory of plot, themes, and characters in The Lumber Room.
They strengthened their understanding of poetic devices and historical context in Big Match 1983.
They practiced answering past paper-style questions with confidence and clarity.
👉 These quick, focused sessions are ideal for exam preparation, ensuring students can recall key ideas and respond effectively under time pressure.
